Choosing a mattress topper

Why use a mattress topper?

What is a mattress topper?

The mattress topper is to add the kind of luxurious comfort you’d expect to find in the world’s most prestigious hotels. Placed on top of a mattress, a mattress topper helps maintain the flexibility or firmness of the mattress. It adds an extra layer of softness and wraps your body in a cocoon of comfort. A mattress topper also helps extend the longevity of your mattress.

Mattress topper or mattress protector?

The mattress topper adds a layer of comfort and softness to your mattress. However, it doesn’t replace the mattress protector.

That said, the mattress protector can also be used to protect the mattress topper when placed between the mattress topper and the fitted sheet.

Which size?

It’s simple: opt for a mattress topper that’s the same size as your mattress. Thanks to the four elastics sewn at the corners, it adapts perfectly to the mattress and won’t move during the night.

Which material?

Stuffing

A mattress topper is composed of a fabric casing filled with stuffing to give it the desired shape and comfort. There are two main types of stuffing: natural or synthetic, each with different firmness, comfort and longevity characteristics.

Down or synthetic mattress topper?

Natural stuffing is known for its exceptional bulk, resilience and durability. Its scarcity makes it an exceptional product with a proud tradition.

The synthetic stuffing is accessible to all and allows for a comfortable mattress overlay that stays in place, while the fibers offer hypoallergenic qualities and easy maintenance.

Both natural or synthetic products have their set of qualities, so it’s important to study the characteristics of each type and make the right choice based on what you need.

Why choose a down mattress topper?

Choosing a down mattress topper is a guarantee of authenticity and natural comfort. The combination of down and feathers is such that every customer will experience solid, restful sleep on it.

  • The higher the percentage of down, the softer the mattress topper.
  • The higher the percentage of feathers, the firmer the mattress topper.

In keeping with our policy on animal welfare, no stuffing used in our mattress toppers comes from live animals. Our duvets and feathers come from duck and geese raised for meat, and we only collect the plumage to make our exceptional stuffing. No animal is hurt in any process linked to plucking.

Why choose a synthetic mattress topper?

These fibers are the result of advanced technological innovation and guarantee highly efficient, durable products. Their resilience and elasticity allow you to have better support throughout the night while evacuating heat as you sleep.

Synthetic duvets and pillows are recommended for people prone to allergies.

The products can be machine-washed and tumble-dried, which means you enjoy a healthier, more hygienic sleeping environment.

Which treatment do I choose for my mattress topper?

Anti-dust-mite

There is a range of mattress toppers specifically designed for people prone to dust-mite allergies.

The anti-mite treatment used by Drouault guarantees peaceful sleeping experiences. This hypoallergenic treatment is tested under dermatological supervision and remains effective even after frequent washing.

Which thickness of mattress topper should I choose?

The Surconfort® mattress topper fibers were designed after years of R&D. These fibers can support the weight of the body while offering softness, resilience and elasticity over time.

The more stuffing in the mattress topper, the warmer and more comfortable the sleeping experience.

Drouault offers products with a thickness of between 4 and 10cm. Either way, you’ll feel as if you’re sleeping on a cloud!

What is grammage?

The weight of a mattress topper is basically the weight of its stuffing, expressed in g/m² (grams per square meter). The higher the grammage, the thicker and denser the mattress topper.

Density

Density ranges between 300gr / m² and 700gr / m² for synthetic mattress toppers and up to 1700g / m² for natural ones. The higher the density, the firmer the mattress topper. The lower the density, the softer the mattress topper.

Firmness

Choosing the firmness of a mattress topper is not the same as choosing the firmness of a mattress. The purpose of the mattress topper is to provide extra comfort or firmness, so it’s a question of personal preference.
